iPhone ID3 tag editor

Just got myself an iPhone 3G yesterday. I have already jailbroken it to try out some interesting applications. I got to say, it’s pretty amazing. I just xould not believe that I can get a full-fledged terminal on a smartphone device. (I owned a Windows Mobile PPC prviously). And now I got all sort of development and networking tools installed on my iPhone. :D

Now, thing is, I copied over some music to my iPhone. Some of the songs didn’t have proper ID3 tags so, I thought I should edit them. After all these amazing application found on the platform, I was hoping to get an ID3 tag editor. But, unfortunately I didn’t. So, I thought why not develop it myself?

I am already learning objective-c programming. So, this will be kind of an excercise for me.

I will be coming with the ID3 editor soon.

Update: This application is delayed because modifying iTunes synced mp3 files on phone causes problem while syncing to iTunes.

So are you now going to start checking the API's for iTunes to see what format it accepts for editing id3 tags? (an xml file or something similar) You could then make your program on the iphone not actually make the changes till sync. Perhaps a field that copies the file name is shown as an editable field where the changes could be made and stored in the file format that iTunes accepts. Even if you had to sync over wireless with a home router it would be a good start towards a solution to editing tags on the phone. As you can probably tell, interested in you finding solution to this because I want the feature too… and i'm sure many others do to and wouldn't mind giving you a dollar for it in the itunes store. Need a beta tester?

Well, I will go through the SDK again and look for the solution again. Thanks.

Sorry, I had to shelve this project long ago. I can’t believe it’s already been almost 2 years. Thanks for your interest though.
